More than likely, you know that Apple announced the release of the iPhone 5 yesterday. I’m geeked! SH is geeked! My momma’s geeked! And, my grandma’s geeked! (Not really, but I wouldn’t have been surprised if my g-ma actually was.)

According to Apple.com, the newest mobile addition to their family will be “the thinnest and lightest iPhone ever, completely redesigned to feature a stunning new 4-inch Retina™ display; an Apple-designed A6 chip for blazing fast performance; and ultrafast wireless technology*—all while delivering even better battery life.** iPhone 5 comes with iOS 6, the world’s most advanced mobile operating system with over 200 new features including: the all new Maps app with Apple-designed cartography and turn-by-turn navigation; Facebook integration; Passbook® organization; and even more Siri® features and languages.”

As Apple executives took the stage, my friend, SU, and I spent the 1 o’clock hour yesterday afternoon glued to the Internet, reading/watching abc.com’s live updates regarding the functionality changes made to the iPhone5. As we gawked and gasped, and ooh’d and ahh’d, we proclaimed our need for this new phone that we know, without a shadow of a doubt, will change our lives for the best.

As my friend jokingly declared “Jesus be an iPhone 5!” (because it’s just that serious), I thought about our natural inclination to become enamored by all things new and shiny. I mean, it really is exciting to experience something that has been completely revamped, upgraded, and virtually made fresh and anew! And, if we can get that excited about something created of glass and aluminum (yes, the iPhone5 is made of glass and aluminum), how much more enthusiastic should we be knowing that we, God’s greatest creation, can also be completely revamped, upgraded and made new??

In 2 Corinthians, Paul tells us the good news:

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 2 Corinthians 5:17

To me, that means if we simply dwell in Christ and reverence Him as Lord and our Savior, He’ll instantly and constantly change us — our hearts, our motives, our character (appears to be our personal operating systems (OS)); our outlook or the way we see things (sounds like Retina™ display to me) — and renew our strength (His promise for an even better battery life), amongst a host of other things.

I don’t know about you, but I’m trying to be made new too. I want us all to undergo a transformation; an enhancement to the best we that we can be. It seems that He’s in the business of refining, fortifying and perfecting His creation on a frequent (dare I say “daily”) basis. He wants to and makes it possible for us to leave our old, hard-headed and slow-functioning selves behind, and become the best thing out there. And, that my friends is worth the hype!

Let Him upgrade you (*singing in my best Beyonce voice*).
